Swedish day 2024

06/11/2024

Why is Swedish Day celebrated in Finland?

The day was originally intended to increase the Swedish-speaking population's sense of belonging. Since then, the purpose of the day has been to respect Finland's bilingualism and to make especially visible the Swedish language and the Swedish-language cultural heritage in Finland. King Gustav II Adolf's death date 6.11.1632 was chosen as the date.

In connection with Swedish Day this year, we at Fristaden want to try to preserve Pixne and their treatment home in Swedish.

Pixne is the only treatment home (out of 39) in all of Finland that provides service in Swedish to its clients.

Now the Welfare Department wants to remove that and make Pixne bilingual. Instead of looking at the other 38 facilities and developing their operations to be more Swedish-speaking?

Please share our page and/or the petition with your loved ones and acquaintances!

The petition will run until 21/11 at 00:00. It will then be forwarded to the decision-makers in the welfare area who will have a meeting regarding this issue on 25/11-2024.
